Charging location pins on Octopus Electroverse map
You may have noticed the Octopus Electroverse map (on our app and website) has recently undergone a little revamp! Our new pins are colourful and more Octopus-y than ever before, making the Electroverse map that much more visually appealing. However, they do more than just make the map look pretty, they’re functional and today we’re going to tell you how - time for a little Electroverse map refresher!
Let’s get plugged in…
What are Electroverse map pins?
Let’s start at the beginning! When we talk about pins - what are we talking about?
When you’re zoomed out on the Electroverse map, the pins are the colourful dots you can see spread across the whole of Europe (and beyond!). When zoomed in, they’re the multicoloured, pin-shaped circles with lightning bolts inside. Each of these pins represent a charging location: ranging from one charger, to multitudes.
When you tap into a pin, you can find all the information you need about the charger:
Charger speed - the amount of kW you’ll receive when charging at this location (keep in mind this is dependant on your EV capacity)
Price of charging (per kWh) - so you can have an idea of how much you’ll be paying for your charge
Charger availability - whether or not someone is already charging at this location
Charger address - tap on this to receive directions to the charger (you can choose your preferred navigation app for this!)
Charger photos - when the Electroverse community has submitted photos of the charger, you can find these here. If there are no photos yet, find out how to upload your own in our Photo Competition blog (and what you could win in the process)!
Operator connection fees - some charge points will charge you additional fees, but we’ll let you know so there are no unwelcome surprises
Access - the different ways in which you can start a charge at this location using Electroverse and more
Opening hours - some chargers are in car parks which will close at certain times
And more!
You can also start a charge within the charger information page! Once you’re at the charger, simply tap ‘Charge’ and select the connector in the app. You will then be directed to plug your EV into the charge point. Once this is done, you can tap ‘Start charge’ & your EV will start charging momentarily!
What do the Electroverse map pin colours mean?
If you’re looking at the Electroverse map but you can’t work out what the coloured pins mean, look no further! Each colour of charging pin represents a charging speed per kWh. Check out what each pin colour means:
Light blue:
The light blue pin, with a lightning bolt depicted inside, represents charging locations with slow speeds accessible - chargers at this location will provide an 0 - 7 kW charging speed.
Blue:
The regular blue pin, with a lightning bolt depicted inside, represents charging locations with fast speeds accessible - chargers at this location will provide an 8 - 49 kW charging speed.
Purple:
The purple pin, with a lightning bolt depicted inside, represents charging locations with rapid speeds accessible - chargers at this location will provide a 50 - 149 kW charging speed.
Pink:
The pink pin, with a lightning bolt depicted inside, represents charging locations with ultra-rapid speeds accessible - chargers at this location will provide a 150 - 350+ kW charging speed.
All our colourful map pins are partnered with Electroverse, this means you can charge at any of them with your Electroverse app or Electrocard!
Black:
If the pin is black, with an image of a lightning bolt alongside a padlock depicted on it, this means this charge point is not on the Electroverse network (yet!) and you won’t be able to charge with them using your Electroverse account. However, you will still be able to see the charger location and limited information on the charge point/s.
Grey:
When the pin is grey with a prohibition sign depicted on it, this means the charger is out of order and cannot be used to charge. When we are notified about a broken charger, we will let the charge point operator know to ensure they are aware of the issue and can fix it as soon as possible.
Pink aeroplane:
Yes, you read that right! When the charging pin is pink and has an aeroplane on it, only aircraft such as electric planes can charge here!
If you get stuck and forget what the map pin colours mean, head to the map symbol on the right hand side of your app screen and you will find the charge point speeds colour key!
