Destination charging is becoming a fundamental part of the electric vehicle ecosystem in Europe.

In this interview, we talk to Nicolas Rojas Correa, Global e-Mobility Manager with Eranovum about how they are integrating 100% renewable energy into their charging infrastructure, rapid expansion in southern Europe, and why interoperability is essential for a simple and hassle-free charging experience.

Let's chat Eranovum...

Give us a bit of background - how did Eranovum start?

Eranovum was founded with a mission to accelerate the transition to clean mobility by integrating renewable energy and electric vehicle infrastructure. What started as a vision to connect 100% green energy with EV charging has grown into a fully integrated platform operating across the entire value chain: from energy generation to public charging points.

Where was the first Eranovum electric charging site? How many charging sites does Eranovum now operate?

Our first fully owned and developed site was installed in 2022 at Marina Denia, in Alicante, Spain, marking the start of our partnership approach to destination charging. Today, Eranovum operates over 1,100 charging points across Spain, France, and Belgium, with thousands more in operation or under construction.

When building a new charging site, what does Eranovum prioritise?

We prioritize two main aspects: user experience and renewable integration. Our goal is to ensure fast, reliable, and seamless charging in strategic locations where drivers naturally stop, such as supermarkets, retail parks, and leisure destinations, while contributing to a more sustainable future.

What charging speeds do Eranovum currently offer, and what’s the future looking like for faster charging?

We currently offer a range of charging powers from AC charging at 22kW and DC charging from 60kW to 300kW. We believe in faster charging, but most of all, we believe in seamless charging by adapting the power of each charger to the time users spend at each location. That way, users charge their cars during their daily activities without compromising their time at the supermarket, sports center, or restaurant.

What’s the vision for Eranovum in 5 years? Any further plans for global expansion?

Our vision is to become the benchmark in Europe for destination charging powered by 100% renewable energy. We are focused on expanding our footprint across southern Europe by securing our position in the Spanish market and continuing to grow in France and Belgium, while innovating with integrated solar energy.

You have a focus on destination charging - why is that model so important for long-term EV adoption, and how does it change the way people think about charging up?

Destination charging makes EV adoption easier by integrating charging into people’s daily lives. Instead of making a stop just to charge, drivers can charge while shopping, working out, or exercising at the gym. It turns charging into something seamless, convenient, and routine. We no longer have to “waste” time going to our local service station but instead we do so in any of our local amenity stores. This network is vital for large scale EV adoption as it gives EV users a competitive alternative to home charging.

By 2026 you’re targeting 5,500–9,000 stations in Spain and abroad. What geographic gaps remain and how do you plan to tackle them?

While we have made strong progress across Spain, there are still underserved areas that we will try to reach very soon. Internationally, southern Europe presents a major opportunity. We are scaling through partnerships with retailers, logistics hubs, and municipalities to install charging stations and provide the right service to EV users where infrastructure is still lacking.

You recently opened Spain’s first charging station connected directly to a solar plant. What’s exciting about this project?

This site is a proof of concept for the future of sustainable mobility: clean energy generation and zero-emission transport, both directly linked. It shows that charging infrastructure can be both high-performance and green, an important step as we build a smarter, more resilient energy system.

What’s one innovation or trend in the EV world that really excites you right now?

We are excited about the integration of battery storage with charging stations. It allows us to manage energy demand more efficiently, reduce grid impact, and optimize the use of solar generation, even when the sun isn’t shining.

Why are partnerships like Eranovum and Octopus Electroverse crucial to the public charging infrastructure?

Interoperability is a key ingredient to guarantee the best user experience. Users should feel free to use the network and service provider of their choice with the least effort and at the lowest possible price. Partnerships like this make charging simpler, more accessible, and more transparent for drivers. Together, we are building a connected ecosystem where users can charge anywhere with a single app, without worrying about compatibility.

What’s your dream electric vehicle?

The Polestar 5: it’s not out yet, but I’m already in love. It’s going to be a beautiful balance of design, power, and electric performance.

What’s the longest journey you’ve completed in an EV - and can you share the total distance?

It was last week that I went from my house in Paris to Girona in Spain,  918km with only 2 charging stops needed and another 2 pit stops for the 2 toddlers in the back.

Do you have an EV life hack to share with the EV community?

Always check that your payment method is updated in the app. You don’t want to discover it’s expired when you’re low on battery!

What advice would you give someone looking to use an Eranovum charging location for the first time?

Download the Octopus Electroverse app! You’ll find all our chargers there and benefit from a smooth, app-based experience across more than a million charge points in Europe, with no extra charge in the Eranovum Network, and during the holiday season, we have a 20% discount for all electroverse users!

And finally - an EV etiquette question - what would you say is the golden rule to using a public charger?

Don’t block a charger once your car is full. Others might be counting on it. Charge, move, and make space for the next driver!
