Let's chat Plug Inn...

Give us a bit of background - how did Plug Inn start?

Plug Inn fast charge was created within the Renault Group with the ambition of building a complete electric mobility ecosystem that goes beyond vehicle sales. The objective from the outset was to develop a fast-charging network across France, accessible to drivers of all brands, and to support the mass adoption of electric vehicles.

Today, Plug Inn fast charge stations are mainly hosted by Renault partner dealerships, but the network extends beyond this, reinforcing our openness to all EV drivers.

Where was the first Plug Inn fast charge site? How many charging sites, across how many countries, does Plug Inn now operate in France?

The first Plug Inn fast charge site opened near Bordeaux, in Lormont: a flagship location designed to elevate the driver experience. In addition to fast charging, the site features a dedicated lounge offering coffee, Wi-Fi, and all the essential services drivers need while they recharge.

As of today, Plug Inn fast charge operates 75 stations across France (450 charging points) and still opens new locations.

How does working within the wider Renault Group ecosystem help accelerate infrastructure deployment?

Being part of the Renault Group ecosystem is a major accelerator for infrastructure deployment. Thanks to our extensive dealer network and OEM position, we can streamline investments and integrate services seamlessly. From the vehicle itself to home charging, mobility solutions with Charge Pass and up to fast-charging infrastructure with Plug Inn fast charge, Renault Group enables a fully integrated, end-to-end offer, delivering simplicity, robustness and added value to customers.

You’ve recently had a brand restructuring from “Mobilize”, what inspired this exciting new change and how did you choose the name Plug Inn?

The rebranding was driven by the desire to bring the fast-charging activity back under one of the most recognized and trusted automotive symbols: Renault’s iconic diamond.

Plug Inn is a name that everyone can appropriate — a strong, memorable marker that is easy to understand internationally. “Plug” is directly linked to electric charging, while “Inn” conveys an imagination of welcome, comfort and service inspired by the hospitality industry.

One of the charging technologies you offer is Plug & Charge! What tech in the electric vehicle space excites you?

Plug & Charge is one of the technologies that best represents the evolution of public charging toward a simpler and seamless experience. With Plug & Charge, drivers no longer need to identify themselves using a card or badge. By registering via the MyRenault app and activating the feature on compatible vehicles, charging starts automatically as soon as the car is plugged in.

This technology is designed to evolve alongside Renault Group’s latest electric models, while remaining open to all vehicle brands that support this standard, reinforcing our commitment to an effortless charging experience.

When building a new charging site, what does Plug Inn prioritise?

Plug Inn prioritises strong territorial coverage across France, ensuring that fast charging is available where drivers need it most. This includes key major road corridors as well as urban and residential areas, where fast charging can respond to real, everyday mobility needs.

Partnerships between major players such as Renault and Octopus Electroverse are essential to the future of electric mobility. They represent a concrete step towards simplifying the charging experience for end users, improving interoperability, and making public charging more accessible, transparent, and user-friendly across Europe.

What’s your dream electric vehicle?

My dream electric vehicle is one that perfectly combines range, fast-charging capability and comfort. An EV should enable long-distance travel with confidence, while offering a premium driving experience and seamless integration with the charging ecosystem. Ultimately, the dream car is one that makes electric mobility feel effortless in everyday life. Renault remains committed to this direction, continuously developing electric vehicles that are more accessible, more appealing, and designed to make electric driving a truly enjoyable experience.

What’s the longest journey you’ve completed in an EV - and can you share the total mileage?

One of the longest journeys I’ve completed in an EV was a trip across multiple regions in the East and Northwest of France, covering 1000 km in 2 days. It was a great example of how today’s charging infrastructure and fast-charging technology already make electric travel entirely viable, even for extended road trips

Do you have an EV life hack to share with the EV community?

One simple but effective EV life hack is to plan your charging stops in advance, ideally combining charging time with a useful break — a coffee, a meal, or some work time. Fast-charging works best when it fits naturally into your journey, rather than feeling like a constraint.

What advice would you give someone looking to use a Plug Inn fast charge location for the first time?

My advice would be: keep it simple and trust the experience. Choose a Plug Inn site, plug in your vehicle, and enjoy the break. Our locations are designed to be intuitive, reliable and comfortable, so even first-time users can recharge with confidence and peace of mind.

And finally - an EV etiquette question - what would you say is the golden rule to using a public charger?

The golden rule of public charging is consideration for others. Once your vehicle has finished charging, free up the charger as soon as possible. Public infrastructure works best when everyone uses it responsibly, helping make electric mobility smoother and more accessible for all.
